If you’ve made it this far, you’ve likely heard of CBD, but chances are, you have not heard of CBG, or cannabigeral. Those of you who have not heard about CBG are probably asking yourselves, what’s the difference between CBD and CBG? The answer is it’s complicated…

CBG’s medicinal effects are generated through the interaction with the CB1 and CB2 cannabinoid receptors in the brain, whereas CBD does not bind to CB1 or CB2 receptors. CBD interacts indirectly with the receptors. Specifically, CBD activates TRPV1 receptors (vanilloid receptor 1 or capsaicin receptors). This partnership creates a variety of positive effects within the body – including promoting a sense of well-being and encouraging higher levels of anandamide production.

That sounds complicated because it is. If you find yourself asking “what’s the difference between CBD and CBG?” or “will CBG will help the same ailments that they have been taking CBD for?” the simple answer is “it depends.”

While both CBD and CBG are effective for a multitude of ailments ranging from reducing inflammation to promoting bone growth, there are many things that CBD helps with that CBD won’t be as effective for. Likewise, there are plenty of things CBG works wonders on that CBD does not address.

Because keeping up can be tricky, we thought it would be helpful to include a handy chart where you can get a better idea of which you should be taking to ease the discomfort of your ailments.
